#TOOCOOLTUESDAY!: The late Patrick Macnee on how he almost lost the role of John Steed in the iconic UK television series, 'The Avengers'.

PATRICK MACNEE, Peter Cushing and Joanna Lumley in The New Avengers episode, 'The Eagles Nest' in 1976

REMEMBERING PATRICK MACNEE who passed today in 2015. Was there ever a cooler chap? Peter Cushing worked with Macnee in Return of the Cybernauts episode of The Avengers in 1967, in 'The New Avengers' episode, 'The Eagles Nest' in 76. Peter and Macnee also appeared in 'Incense for the Damned' in 1970. School fiend of Christopher Lee and all round gentleman! Patrick Macnee 1922- 2015. A favorite with you?

Macnee and Christopher Lee made a fine Holmes and Watson!

#SILENTBUTDEADLY: TRAPPED GONE AND A BLUE CARBUNCLE

#SILENTBUTDEADLY: Requested by Shawn Kelly. HERE IS THAT horrible moment . . this sequence crackles . .  from #HORROROFDRACULA when Jonathan Harker realizes his fate is sealed, that the creature he was going to destroy, now is about to destroy HIM! John Van Eyssen plays Harker here, to the top, even so recently I had read quite few comments at our Facebook Fan Page that Eyssen's acting style does meet everyone's approval. Eyssen himself, didn't rate himself to be much of an actor! I think he did a great job and of his particular style, I would say for me personally, it was his voice that made him stand out, in a very good way, from most actors of the time. With a total of almost fifty film appearances, it's a body of work that shows variety and a capable actor. How do you rate JOHN VAN EYSSEN?

IN PAST WEEKS, JONATHAN HARKER HAS JOINED THE RANKS OF OUR #MONSTERMONDAY CANDIDATES!

#SILENTBUTDEADLY: AND THERE HE WAS..... GONE! Slippery characters vampires, and they don't come more slippery than Baron Meinster. This is a great example of director Terence Fisher's ability to the squeeze the maximum from a shot, and this Fisher Cushing outing, #THEBRIDESOFDRACULA (1960)  is full of examples like this. Note just before the cut, the arrival of the Baron's mother Baroness Meinster, deliciously played by second on the bill, Martita Hunt.We slide from tension to empathy, with the Baroness sharing her shame to Van Helsing, in that she too has succumbed to the wicked plague, propagated by her son, and only Van Helsing, can set her free. Requested by  Colum Macanally

#SILENTBUTDEADLY: HERE'S PETER CUSHING about to tackle another case as Sherlock Holmes, but can you name the character sitting in the chair and his connection, to one 'ARTHUR MULLARD'???

ANSWER:
DANIEL MCGACHEY came up with the answer on our PCAS FACEBOOK FAN PAGE : 'Beck and Mullard starred together in the UK sitcom 'Romany Jones'. (Mullard's character from that series, Wally Briggs, got his own spin-off with his onscreen wife, Lil, played by Queenie Watts, called, 'Yus, My Dear', and then Wally and Lil cropped up in the film 'Holiday On The Buses', which also starred Michael Robbins, who also guest starred in this version of 'The Blue Carbuncle'.

WE SAID: Well done, Daniel McGachey :) I have been trying to work out a way to get Arthur's name on this page for the last few weeks... I remember Romany Jones very well...and Arthur's catchphrase, 'YUS, My Dear...!' bless him. Thanks, Danie

#HAPPYFATHERSDAY: FATHERS PASSED BUT NOT FORGOTTEN!

#HAPPYFATHERSDAY! It's the day for Dad's whoever you are, wherever you are all over the world. Father's here, Father's passed. Father's who can celebrate with their children today, and Father's, for whatever reason can not. My Dad is 4,000 miles away today, but only seconds away when I picked up that phone. He is, all I could ever ask for in a Father and friend . . .hey and without him, I never would have seen Dr Who and the Daleks in the cinema way back then!

Christina Lee with Father Christopher and Mother, Birgit.

Victoria with Father Vincent and pet Pug, Puffle!
CUSHING'S FATHER George, was a rock. Though he was closer to his Mother, Nellie, his Dad was always there for him, when he needed him. Cushing joked that his Father paid for his air ticker to the USA back in 1939, but he bought a ONE WAY ticket!!! Victoria Price has shared her memories of her Dad Vincent in an amazing book. And today she still travels the world, sharing stories and celebrating her father. Christina Lee I am sure, is still really missing her Father, Christopher. You only have to see the pics of her and her Dad to know, they were very close. With both Christina and Victoria, you can see many mannerisms that hint at their Dad's.... Happy Father's Day!

The Cushing Family: Peter at the top, his Father George, Mother Nellie and his Brother, David.

PATRICK MACNEE REMEMBERED

THIS WEEK AT our facebook fan page, we rememberd the wonderful actor Patrick Macnee who was born on this day in 1922. He was best known for his role as the secret agent John Steed in the British television series The Avengers and The New Avengers.

PATRICK MACNEE and Peter Cushing had the opportunity to work together several times. In 1968 Patrick was very much established in a superb tv programme made in the UK called The Avengers...Peter worked with both Patrick and Diana Rigg on this programme. Later in 1970, they worked together again, Macnee and Cushing both 'landed' in a film called 'Incense For The Damned' aka 'Bloodsuckers' It received a limited release at the time, but seems to have found something of a 'cult-status' in the land of '100 Horror Poor and Weird Films' dvd compilations!! In 1978, the Avengers tv series was rebooted and relaunched and it's first episode, not only brought us Macnee and Cushing ....but also two new side -kicks for Macnee...Gareth Hunt as 'Tough man' Gambit and Joanna Lumley as Purdey.....who not only supplied buckets of sex appeal to the tea time Sunday evening program, but high kicks and a hair style that anyone who considered themselves a bit of a catch, were proudly modeling within days of the first program being broadcast! Lumley had played Cushing grand-daughter Jessica Van Helsing in Hammer films 'The Satanic Rites of Dracula' (1973)

MACNEE also shared a close friendship with Christopher Lee, since the pair attended school together (at Summerfields Preparatory School in Oxford) and also performed together several times, including playing Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson in two TV movies in the early 1990s, Incident at Victoria Falls and Sherlock Holmes and the Leading Lady. Patrick Macnee died peacefully at his home, in Rancho Mirage, California on 25th June 2015. He was 93.

#TOOCOOLTUESDAY: THE FAMILY CUSHING ON A HOLIDAY IN BOGNOR!

#TOOCOOLTUESDAY: HERE IS A VERY RARE PIC of the Cushing Family on hoilday, in BOGNOR, of all places! From the left: GEORGE Cushing, Peter Father, then NELLIE Peter's Mother. Next  ARTHUR Peter's Uncle, and Nellie's sister in law, WYN . An unnamed chap on the far right. At the front Peter's brother, DAVID on the left and a young smiling PETER on the right! The reverse side of this pic comes from a time when, a jobbing photographer would take your photograph at a sea-side resort, and process it on photographic paper that was also a postcard....so when you picked up your pic, you could write on the reverse side and post it off to your relatives and friends!
