THE LAST REUNION OF CHRISTOPHER LEE AND HAMMER FILMS?

#CHRISTOPHERLEESATURDAY! Christopher Lee as, August in the 2011 film, 'THE RESIDENT' a role for Lee, that was seen by many, as a welcome return to Hammer films. The Hammer connection though, was also a very sticky point when the film was released. Many Lee and Hammer fans, didn't see or credit this roel as a RETURN at all, only that Hammer was now far removed from the lone and iconic production company of yesterday. Many argued that THE RESIDENT was produced by a Hammer films, that was a consortium of businesses, that it wasn't a sole Hammer film production and that Hammer was just a name! Does the fact that Hammer films had changed and that several hands were producing the films, take away the link between Christopher Lee appearing in what appeared to 'the public' to be a celebrated reunion? This isthe question we are asking today at the Facebook PCASUK FAN PAGE! Please feel free to join the debate, and add your opinion on this too!

#CHRISTOPHERLEE Saturday! Aged 85, and out and about in town in 2007, is Christopher Lee! 😊 Look closely and you'll see he is carrying some DVD's in his hand. Over at the Facebook PCAS FAN PAGE we've asked those of you who are keen eyed film collectors, IF they can identify the title of that dvd? 😉

BY THE WAY, did you know that the name of Dracula's 'hang out' Pelham House in 'Satanic Rites' was an 'in-joke reference' to Hammer films CEO Sir James Carreras home of residence, Pelham Place in London? 'Satanic Rites' was Sir James' last production with Hammer films.

#CUSHINGCOLLECTORSWEDNESDAY! You may remember our post about a Hammer 'Dracula' (1958) cinema poster about to go, under the 'Hammer' a few weeks ago? Well, if you do, you may recall, the estimate for this rare and valuable collectors item was between 6,000 and 8,000 UK pounds?? Well, at auction last night at Whyte’s auction house in Dublin, the final and winning bid was... SIXTEEN THOUSAND POUNDS! (22k US Dollars) Someone is a few quid lighter this morning, but probably very happy with this hanging on their wall.

THROWBACK Last week's PCAS post about the auction and estimated price !

THE LOCAL PRESS covered the story today: "A Dracula poster was sold for €16,000 – more than double its estimate at auction. Film lovers vied to get their hands on a fully-restored and linen-backed version of the 1958 print showing Christopher Lee’s iconic vampire. In it, the count is about to feast on Mina Holmwood, played by actress Melissa Stribling. After several minutes of furious bidding, lot 484, which had an estimate of between €6,000 and €8,000, took much more than what was expected. It was just one of 544 unusual lots up for grabs at Whyte’s auction house in Dublin last night. Autographs of all four members of rock band Led Zeppelin, which had an estimate of €1,500, sold for €3,400. Three volumes of JRR Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings sold for €6,400, while hair from French general Napolean Bonaparte went for €130......!

#CHRISTOPHERLEESATURDAYS! SCARS OF DRACULA : KLOVE VS KLOVE AND DRACULA IS LOOSE ON THE SHIP!

#CHRISTOPHERLEESATURDAY!' A requested post with TWO questions from Tony Price for today's #ChrstopherLeestaurday... ' Do you think Dennis Waterman was miscast in Lee's 'Scars of Dracula?' AND Did Patrick Troughton make a better odd-job man, KLOVE in Hammer's 'Scars of Dracula?' Tell us what you think!

#CHRISTOPHERLEESATURDAYS! A clip that is getting a huge response over at our Peter Cushing Appreciation Society Facebook Fan Page I'm a huge fan of the work of Peter Sellers and The Magic Christian, is certainly one of his strangest films, but what a bonus that it also features this fellow in a guest appearance . .chaotic, confusing, wacky... and yes, MAGIC!

ANOTHER ISSUE OF THE PROFESSOR IS ON ITS WAY! It will arrive between late September and early October and according to the team.. 'It will be wonderful!' So BRACE yourself!  #Lovetheprofessor #Comics #Theprofessor Lo state aspettando vero! Arriverà tra fine settembre e primi di ottobre e sarà stupendo! Siete pronti??? #LoveTheProfessor #comics #theprofessor

#CHRISTOPHERLEESATURDAYS! Majestic, cool and deadly . . .Christopher Lee as Count Dracula in #Hammerfilms Dracula AD 1972, owned every scene in which he appeared . . . Peter Cushing appeared as Vampire hunters, Lawrence and Lorrimer Van Helsing. It makes one wonder why it took 14 years to repeat the casting and chemistry of both Lee and Cushing in the roles that made such an impact with huge box office success in Hammer films, Dracula / Horror of Dracula back in 1958.

#HAMMERFILMSSATURDAY: DRACULA'S FLASH BANG WALLOP MAKES CHAOS 5 YEARS LATER AT HAMMER

#HAMMERFILMSSATURDAY: ONE of the great things about us having one of our seven THEMED DAYS here at PCAS on #HAMMERFILMS is we can have fun and cast our net further, to take in some of other classics you may have missed, or enjoy This is Christopher Lee going out in style in Hammer films, 'SCARS OF DRACULA' (1970).

RARE COLOUR IMAGES AND MUCH MORE: FOLLOW THE LINK TO READ BRUCE HALLENBECK'S FEATURE ON 'SCARS OF DRACULA' AT OUR SUPPLEMENT WEBSITE, THEBLACKBOXCLUB.COM: HERE!

REFERRING BACK to our previous post today, on the subject of salaries and profits, it wasn't common knowledge until very recently that SCARS was the most profitable Dracula film for Lee. His contract stipulated that he was to receive a percentage of the film's profits, making it not only his most profitable Dracula film, but quite likely his most profitable Hammer film of them all! The death scene unfortunately, scuppered the spectacular planned death of another Hammer Lee character many years later, when Lee played Father Michael in the 1976, 'To The Devil A Daughter'..last minute changes to his death scene resulted in a duff anti climax to the film, and still many years later, Hammer fans are scratching their heads in confusion at the improvised ending of what would be Hammer's last Horror film, for quite sometime.

REMEMBERING PATRICK TROUGHTON

TODAY we remember Patrick Troughton born on this day in 1920. Best remembered for his portrayal of the second incarnation of Doctor Who (1966-69)

ONE OF HIS best known roles being in The Omen (1976). He also made several appearances in Hammer films most notably as Count Dracula's servant Klove in Scars Of Dracula (1970) with Christopher Lee. He co-starred with Peter Cushing in four films Hamlet (1948), The Black Knight (1952), The Gorgon (1964) and Frankenstein And The Monster Hell (1974)

TROUGHTON is also connected to a mysterious casting event, that centres around Cushing's and Hammer films, first Frankenstein films, The Curse of Frankenstein. We did an extensive feature on it, which you can catch up below!

#HAMMERFILMSSATURDAY: VAMPIRE GIRL AND SCARS OF DRACULA

#HAMMERFILMSATURDAY: CHRISTOPHER LEE in a scene that resembles the Harker - Vampire Woman - Dracula set up in Hammer films first outing in 1958, with the 'HORROR OF DRACULA' Now, it's the beautiful actress Anouska Hempel and Christopher Matthews in SCARS OF DRACULA (1970)

#HAMMERFILMSSATURDAY: Requested Photographs for Aaron D. Haynes . . Christopher Lee in his fifth Hammer #DRACULA film, Scars of Dracula (1970). Maybe the weakest story, but certainly the most profitable Hammer film for Lee personally, who enjoyed a percentage from the world wide box office takings!!

#HAMMERFILMSSATURDAY : Above two of the young stars from #SCARSOFDRACULA. Denis Waterman and Jenny Hanley as not only the 'love interest' in the film, but also the 'vampire killer' and...BAT BAIT! Maybe not the actors finest hours, Waterman along with his fellow cast member Christopher Matthews, were though by critics to have been miscast, and Hanley was dubbed by Nikki Van der Zyl. . Actor John Forbes- Robertson was considered to play the title role of the Count, when Lee dug in his heels and refused to return... only then to do a complete U -turn, and play Dracula for Hammer, one more time...Photographs REQUESTED by Daniel Miller and  Cheryl Hubbard.
